Pak wants to host tennis Fed Cup

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has requested the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to allow them to host next year's Fed Cup.
Pakistan, which is placed in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania group II, participated in the event after a decade this year.
PTF's acting president Irshad Bhatti said that hosting the event would help Pakistan progress to the next round.
"We are taking inspiration from the Pakistan Football Federation. FIFA approved Lahore as venue for the World Cup qualifier against Bangladesh so we also requested the ITF to allow us to host the Fed Cup," The Express Tribune quoted Bhatti, as saying.
Pakistan has produced many sporting stars right from the Independence and the history of Pakistan tennis can''t be completed without mentioning the name of Haq Brothers - Inamul Haq, Islamul Haq, Hameedul Haq and Ikramul Haq.
It was reported earlier that the PTF had issued its four-year developmental plan for the promotion of the game, aiming at winning a spot in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro.
The country is currently ranked 57th in Davis Cup, the premier international team event in men's tennis, while placed at No. 78 in Fed Cup, a premier team competition in women's tennis. (ANI)
