Top Lashkar militant killed in Kashmir shootout
Uni was active in Sopore area of the valley for more than four years and carried a reward of Rs.20 lakh on his head, police said.
He is believed to have masterminded the killing of Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees chief Maulana Shaukat Ahmad Shah earlier this year.
Superintendent of Police Sayed Imtiyaz Hussain told IANS that Uni was killed in a gunfight in Baghat locality, a densely populated area in the old town area of Sopore Tuesday afternoon.
The security forces, based on specific information that militants were hiding in the area, zeroed in on a house in the locality. They came under heavy automatic gunfire, triggering retaliatory fire from the security forces,
Uni's real name is Azhar Malik, and he is the son of Riyaz Malik of Multan, in Pakistan.
