Cartoonist Mario De Miranda No More

                                                                                                                                             
       
Acclaimed cartoonist Mario Miranda, who made Goan landscapes and people come alive on canvas, died at his ancestral home in Loutolim Sunday(11/12/11) after a long illness, family sources said. He was 85 an
d survived by his wife Habiba and sons, Rahul and Rishad.
Birth
Miranda was born in Daman in 1926 to Goan Catholic parents of Goud Saraswat Brahmin origin. His ancestral surname was Sardessai, before the family converted to Roman Catholicism in the 1750s

Education
Miranda studied at St Joshep's Boy School, Banglore, and did BA(History) from the prestigious St xavier's college in Mumbai. Intially he was intersted in Joining the IAS but changed his mind and started studying architecture on his parent's insistence according to family sources. Soon he lost he his interest in architecture too and ventured nito art.

Into Cartooning
he got first break when The Illustrated Weekly of India(Not Published Now) published a few of his cartoons.
He went to portugal andtions then to London where he worked for Newspaper and in television animation
He has held solo exhibitions in over 22 countries, including the United States, Japan, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, France, Yugoslavia, and Portugal.

Awards
He received padam Shri Award in 1998
He received Padam Bhusan Award in 2002.
